<trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>Diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) reflects Brownian motion of water molecules. DWI provides both qualitative and quantitative image analysis. In recent years, with technical advances, DWI has been increasingly applied to extracranial pathology, including liver diseases. In this article the basic principles of DWI, clinical application, studies of DWI in the differential diagnosis of focal liver lesions, evaluation of tumor response to chemotherapy and local treatment are discussed.</p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>диффузионно-взвешенные изображения</kwd><kwd>печень</kwd><kwd>очаговое поражение печени</kwd><kwd>дифференциальная диагностика</kwd><kwd>diffusion-weighted imaging</kwd><kwd>liver</kwd><kwd>focal liver lesions</kwd><kwd>differential diagnosis</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><title>References</title><ref id="cit1"><label>1</label><citation-alternatives><mixed-citation xml:lang="ru">Demir O.I., Obuz F., Sağol O., Dicle O.
